Childhood Nostalgia
When I was a child, I loved to read storybooks which were my grandmother bought for me. I was very inspired by reading those storybooks. As I was a quiet lass, I enjoyed reading funny stories as well as fairy tales and I felt that I was living inside those little worlds through my imagination. Yesterday when I was cleaning my wall cupboard, I found a little storybook that made me laugh and kept me delighted. It was written by Sibil Weththasinghe who was passed away last year. So I stopped my work for a while and began to read the book.
The book was about a group of children doing a trick for their elder family members. Its name was "Muththata Pol Kiri". When I was reading that story after a long time, which means yesterday, I realised that it was not just a funny story. Sibil mentioned a group of people in that story and their names were differed by religion. She tried to express that there should be unity among all the religions when trouble arises.
The story's main character Puncha and his little gang has made a glass of lime juice and gave it to his grandfather. They had been told by their grandfather who is known as "Muththa" that lime is a kind of acid and the kids went to Puncha's Mom and tell her that they gave some Acid to grandpa. Then she gets very upset and informs everyone in the village for help and a large crowd gathers at their house. Some of them try to take grandpa to the hospital and some are trying to feed him coconut milk with bread as they think that the bread absorbs toxins. Finally, grandpa tells everyone what was happened and he gets to laugh with the children. This is a very short story but the author tried to spread a huge message through it.
